What Is a Ticker?
A ticker is a symbol, usually letters, numbers, and characters, assigned to an asset traded on exchanges. A ticker makes it easy to recognize, reference, and list the assets in question. All crypto assets traded on exchanges have unique tickers. This is a feature borrowed from the conventional stock market.
A Deeper Look at This Term
The ticker is usually a shortened form of the name of the asset. For example, the ticker for Bitcoin is BTC, and that of Ethereum is ETH. This is created and submitted by the company or the dev team behind the project. A ticker for an asset must be the same in all the exchanges where it is traded. For example, the tickers BTC and ETH are the same in every crypto exchange or trading platform you visit.
