A vanity address is simply a custom cryptocurrency address. With a vanity address, you can create a personalized public address with unique letters and numbers. These types of addresses can be created using a variety of 3rd party online services. Additionally, vanity addresses are typically associated with Bitcoin wallet addresses.
Explanation
Vanity addresses do not serve any functional purpose other than to help make your public address stand out from others. In some ways, these addresses are similar to custom vehicle license plates. By adding a personal touch to your public key, you can add a level of prestige to your address.
The applications used to generate vanity addresses are called vanitygens (short for vanity generators).
